Bedroom Linen: 'How to Guide' for Trans-Seasonal Layering

As the nights get a little chillier, but the days remain warmer, it can be a little tricky to know how to dress your bed between seasons. Briscoes have some handy tips to make trans-seasonal dressing of your bed a breeze. Hot tip: Layers during this transitional season are key!

Building Your Trans-Seasonal Bed

Perhaps the most important building block for your trans-seasonal bed would be your sheet set!
Our top tip for sheeting during these months would be to choose a natural fibre, such as pure linen and cotton. Did you know that as Linen is a breathable fabric, it has the ability to help regulate your body temperature, helping to keep you comfortable across the seasons.

Linen is a timeless fabric, which offers an exceptional sleeping experience. With a beautiful drape, and relaxed feel, Linen is a highly durable fabric that will get softer wash after wash.

The 100% Linen duvets and sheet sets available from Royal Albert offer a raw edge fringe detailing on the cuff of the sheet sets and pillowcases, as well as on the edge of the duvet covers. Available in a range of pretty pastel colourways, you can mix n match within the range, or pair the sheet sets with a patterned duvet as we have, for contrast.

Now for the Layers

One of the best tips for layering your bed would be to give yourself options. Start with a lightweight blanket, such as the Urban Loft Basketweave Blanket range. These blankets are available in a handy 240x240cm size and are made from 100% Cotton, again a natural breathable fibre.

You could then try styling a duvet cover as a comforter at the bottom of the bed. Styling this way adds a pop of colour and print for interest at the bottom of the bed, which can then be pulled up for added warmth as the nights get cooler. Alternatively, If you are someone that finds these in between months cooler at nightime, then a slightly warmer layer may work better for you here - such as the Cuddledown Mink blanket. These silky soft faux-mink blankets are available in a beautiful range of colourways and have a warmer weight of 500gsm.

Choosing a Duvet Inner

Key to choosing a duvet inner during these transitional months would be to look for an inner that offers warmth without a lot of added weight, such as a wool or a feather and down inner.

A lighter weight wool inner can be perfect for these in-between months. As wool is a natural fibre, it helps to wick moisture away from you during the warmer seasons, and helps trap warmth in when the nights get cooler. A weight such as 350gsm offered by the Two Islands Wool Inner is ideal for all year use. For the ultimate warmth without weight experience however, you can't look past a down and feather inner. Thanks to the superior insulating properties of down, the higher the percentage of down, the warmer your inner will be, without added weight. The John Cotton 50/50 feather and down inner is ideal for these transitional seasons, offering a warmth level that is suitable for all year round use.

Briscoes have an extensive array of duvet inners, so be sure to check them out in store or online to ensure you find your best fit.
